1933-34
Beginnings
The land near the head of Watts Creek was donated by Grover and Oxie Blanton to serve as a Boy Scout Camp and “a playground for Harlan Countians.” The CCC went to work building the lake and the first few structures that became Camp Blanton
1940s-1980s
Outdoor Sanctuary
This was the golden age of the camp. With the flourishing of scouting within the county, and nationally, Camp Blanton became the focal point of outdoor activity
1988
Second Act
With scouting in decline in the county, and the camp in need of renovations, a group of local business and community leaders band together to form Camp Blanton Trust as a way to preserve the camp for future generations
Late 1990s - early 2000s
A Period of Change
This era saw the camp change the most since the inception. The most notable changes included the addition of a full commercial kitchen to the mess hall, a shower house attached to the pool area, and the start of our new cabin
